Read Amanda DeMarco on translating Exposition at The Paris Review. Set long before our own “selfie” age, Exposition is a remarkably modern investigation into the curses of beauty, fame, vanity, and age, as well as the obsessive drive to control and commodify one’s image. Here, Léger’s subject is the Countess of Castiglione (1837–1899), who at the dawn of photography dedicated herself to becoming the most photographed woman in the world, modeling for hundreds of photos, including “Scherzo di Follia,” among the most famous in history. ![]() ![]() ![]() In each, Léger sets the story of a female artist against the background of her own life and research-an archivist’s journey into the self, into the lives that history hides from us. Exposition is the first in a triptych of books by the award-winning writer and archivist Nathalie L éger that includes Suite for Barbara Loden and The White Dress. ![]()

That people have taken our cautionary tales and used them as guidebooks. I could draw further links between how V for Vendetta envisions the future (now past) and our current situations in the US and the UK, but I'm kind of sure that many of us are tired of seeing our dystopian futures played out for us in real time. ![]() There are deep parallels between 1984 and V for Vendetta that have filled reams of criticism over the years, from the dystopian future to the fascist nature of the government, to the intrinsic “Englishness” of both works. The question, though, is: am I talking about now? Or am I paraphrasing from and talking about the seminal classic, V for Vendetta by Alan Moore, David Lloyd, Tony Weare, Steve Whitaker, Siobhan Dodds, Jerry O'Connor, Steve Craddock, and Elitta Fell? If you have one on a good book, treasure it and be sure to protect it with a plastic sleeve. This huge difference in value is largely due to the fact that more than 90% of dust jackets are destroyed, either deliberately or due to their ephemeral and fragile nature. Scott Fitzgerald’s Tender is the Night with dust jacket is around $6,000. If there is one single thing that is a make or break for book value, it would be the dust jacket. Which seems to indicate that he believes his wife was violated and he reads novels about wives cheating on their husbands but her way of cheating was unparalleled ? But it doesn't seem to fit somehow. Is he assuming that what he believes to be two small animals are in fact two people and his wife is cheating on him ? But what confuses me is, why does he say, "there were two small animals" (first bold text) and then says 「これもまた人間の姿だ」. My conjecture is, someone is doing something to his wife because he says he couldn't even do anything about it. The main character is looking at the window of his room and he sees something(he's drunk). ![]() 7/4/2023 0 Comments Born at midnight by cc hunter![]() ![]() The series is centered on 16-year-old teen Kylie Galen, who goes on a quest to discover her own supernatural identity in the Shadow falls camp which is an institution for all supernatural beings. ![]() C Hunter brings them all together in her Born at Midnight series.
